Comments: I am looking for people who may remember my Grandfather, T/ Sergeant
Victor S. Corron 22nd Inf., Company "C" W.W.II (Ivy fourth). His
nickname during W.W.II was "Klink" Corron. He is still living in
Beekmantown, New York. I am building a web site about Grandpa's service and I
would love to hear from any veterans that might have served with my Grandfather.
I would also like to hear from people who may have information about my
Grandfather's service. Thank you.

Comments: ATTENTION TO ALL: Gary Krek, our webmaster suffered a mild stroke on
Friday. He's doing fine, but needless to say - quite a scare. Currently, he's
going through some physical therapy for his speech and left arm. He was just
able to start that today. Hopefully, he'll be able to eat something solid
tomorrow; They've had him on nothing by mouth and he's really getting ornery
because of it. He's in Maryvale Hospital, room 647. The address is: 5102 W.
Campbell, Phoenix, AZ 85031. The phone # 623-848-5000. You can e-mail him at:
hhc222mi@inficad.com - evidently he has a laptop and will have at the hospital
soon. I'm really proud of his progress so far, but keep him in your prayers.
Love to all, Bill and Patti

Comments: 55 years ago - November 27, 1944 - PFC Macario Garcia, B/1-22, earned
the Medal of Honor while fighting in the Hurtgen Forest. For the complete
writeup on Garcia's heroics, look on the WWII Medal of Honor page on the 4th
Infantry Division Association web page at www.4thinfantry.org. When President
Truman awarded him the Medal of Honor in a ceremony after the war, COL John
Ruggles, Regimental Commander, heard Truman say to Garcia, "I would rather
earn this Medal than be President of the United States." Deeds not Words!

Comments: I am looking for anyone who might have known John Edward Nelson. John
was a member of Company C, 2nd Battalion 22nd Infantry, 25th Infantry Division
and was sent to South Vietnam on December 19, 1967. He was killed in Binh Duong
Province on April 13, 1968. My mom was very young when she became pregnant with
me back in October 1967 and she can only remember John's name and where he is
from. I am trying to find someone who might be able to tell me if John went
through any training at Ft. Sill in Lawton Oklahoma before being sent to
Vietnam. There is a good chance that John is my father and all I need to know is
this information. Please help me if you can, Thank You.

Administrator, brought this 22nd Infantry Regiment Society web page on line. In
those two years, over 32,000 visits have been made to this web page - an average
of over 1300 per month. The reunions that have happened, the lost buddies found,
the information passed on about a lost loved one, and the historical information
about our Regiment that Gary has made available for all of us is priceless. We
all owe Gary Krek a big "Thank You" for doing such a great job for so
many of us. Not only is there great information on this web page, the quality of
the way it is presented is second to none. Gary obviously is a man who follows
our Regimental motto of "Deeds not Words!"

Division fro August 1986 to Oct 1987. Our Battalion was formed with guys that
enlisted from all over the country and went to Basic and Infantry school as a
group and stayed together as a Battalion until their enlistments were up. I
served as a Squad Leader in the first Platoon. It was a very challenging
experience to train and mold that unit but it worked out well. The Battalion was
one of the finest in the division and the Army!! I am retired now and have 2
sons in the Army. I would enjoy hearing from some of the guys that served with
4/22 from that era or any of the guys that served with any of the other COHORT
units, it was an experience I will never forget!! Our BN motto was REGULARS BY

and e-mail addresses? Also: I was just reviewing the Books/PX page and noticed
that Close Quarters by Larry Heinneman is not listed. Having read it more than
once, I'm sure that it's based upon the Triple Deuce, although he calls his unit
the 'Triple Trey' (3/33). In his book he describes what is surely the Battle of
Soui Tre. I may be mistaken about this, but the book is a great read. I'm still

sure. Best regards to Bill Allison, John Eberwine, and Norm Nishikubo for your
great work in getting so many of us back together. Also, Id like to locate
anyone who tranferred to the Triple Deuce in July '67 from the 1st Bn (Mech),
5th Infantry in Cu Chi as part of the "infusion program". Several
dozen of us who had a few months experience in the field with 1/5 were
transferred to 2/22 so that there would be more seasoned men available to carry
on when the "originals" who arrived en masse in Sept.'66 derosed at
the same time in Sept.'67. We had to go through the "new guy"
treatment all over again. Red Dodd (R.I.P.) was one of us. If you were part of
that program, or know of anyone who was, please let me know. Thanks.

Comments: 55 years ago - August 25, 1944 - troops of the 22nd Infantry Regiment
followed the leading 12th Infantry Regiment and the French 2nd Armored Division
as the first Allied troops to liberate Paris after years of Nazi occupation.
Riding through Paris on trucks, the 22nd Infantrymen were treated like heroes by
the liberated Parisians. Unable to rest and enjoy the celebration, the 22nd
Infantry Regiment continued through Paris and continued the attack in pursuit of
the retreating Nazi army. But those who were there will never forget their
participation in that historic event. Stories from many of our vets who were
there that day are included in the August 1998 issue of the 22nd Infantry
Regiment Society newsletter. I would still like to have more Paris stories from
others who were there 55 years ago. Deeds not Words!

Comments: August 6th, a great day. I remember leaving the USNS Walker on that
day in 1966, Qui Nhon harbor, boarding the LCMs and heading for the beach where
we were picked up and trucked through Pleiku to our new home, a little bit of
high ground, in the middle of nowhere. We set up a perimeter with nothing more
than our small arms, radios, but no air support frequency. All of us were
apprehensive and realized Charlie was out there. After setting up positions,
checking the line, and trying to sleep, came the rain and the uncertainty. We
"spent" many rounds that night, firing at whatever was or was not out
there. We were taking no chances and no prisoners. I was a city kid from
Chicago, responsible for the lives of 45 of America's best, suddenly living in
some foreign land and looking for guidance. That was the first night in Vietnam
for my platoon, the 4.2" mortar platoon, 1/22 Inf., 4th ID. Scary, and the
beginning of one hell of an adventure. I must also say that August 6th would be
my daughters birthday--1974. August 6th, a day of many memories. Deeds not
Words, Welcome home.

Comments: 33 Years ago - August 6, 1966 - men of 1-22 Infantry and 1-12 Infantry
came ashore as lead elements of the 4th Infantry to arrive in Vietnam (4th
Engineers and advance party had arrived in July 1966). After getting off the
ship at Qui Nhon, we immediately boarded C130s and were taking responsibility
for the perimeter of what 4th Inf Div soldiers for the next few years would know
as Camp Enari - then just an open plain surrounded by jungles - as dusk settled
in. Intelligence reports indicated a strong likelihood of an NVA attack that
night - but after a night of monsoon rains and some touchy trigger fingers
responding to unknown noises, the men welcomed the new day and the beginning of
our one year adventure in Vietnam. Deeds not Words! P.S. I was laying there in
the monsoon rains along with my troops from 3rd platoon, B/1-22.

Comments: I served with Co. D, 2/22 Inf. from Sep 68 to Sep 69. Does anybody
remember SFC "Chicken Man" that was scared to death of that ......
Warrant (CW2 Richard S. Merrow)? Would love to hear from any of the great men
that served with me. Anyone that served during the time period I did couldn't
help forget the daily mail call ritual where SP5 Anthony D. Carlo typically
would get about 10-15 letters a day. I think most of us envied the great
supportive family he had. Please drop me a line; I would love to hear from some
of you. Tim Fannin

"The Forgotten War", it is important that no American veteran should
ever allow another veteran to be forgotten. Although the 22nd Infantry Regiment
was on Cold War occupation duty in Germany throughout the Korean War, several of
our members who served with our Regiment in WWII and in Vietnam served with
other combat units in Korea. From one set of proud veterans to those who served
so well in Korea, we salute you. Over 2 million Americans served in Korea and
over 54,000 made the ultimate sacrifice in the name of freedom. Deeds not Words!

whether or not to come to the Minneapolis reunion: Do it! If you're scanning
this website, it means you're interested in remembering, and there's no better
place than in a comfortable hotel with friends you've not seen for 30 years. No
one forces you to talk or remember anything you might not want to, it's up to
you. You' d be surprised at how many guys are looking to hear from you. There is
plenty to do and see, and good times to be had. You needn't have been a hero to
to be welcome. We're just guys who spent a lot of hot, wet, and often dangerous
days together...it means something!! Come to Minneapolis and be with the best!

Comments: Greetings 22nd Infantry Regiment Society! I am trying to find out more
information about my grandfather and his service during WWII. He was PFC Otto H.
Kaiser, originally in L Company, but later transferred to HQ 3rd battalion, of
the 22nd Infantry, on the 2nd of July 1944. My grandfather was proud to have
served in the US Army and I would like to honor him by finding out more about
his service. We have reason to believe he was present on D-Day and was in the
vicinity of Ayeville (spelling?), France in early June 1944. We are also aware
that during 6/6/44 thru 8/31/44, Otto Kaiser served as scout and interpreter. He
had a strong German accent, and was never promoted higher than PFC. Newspaper
article(s) when they quoted him, referred to him as Otto Kerr, due to his German
last name. Medals and citations appear to have been signed by H.W. Blakely,
Major General US Army Commanding. Otto Kaiser was from the New York area,
Brooklyn/Queens when he enlisted and either trained at Fort Dix and/or received
his honorable discharge on 10/4/45 from Fort Dix. Appreciate any assistance you
all could provide. In addition, would like to thank those who have assisted me
thus far (MC Toyer, R. Rush and C. McKee). I want to be able to pass down the
history and pride my grandfather had for his service and his country to his
great-grandchildren.

turn to the cherished years of youth that were left in a French forest so many
years ago. Dad was in Foxtrot Company, 22d Infantry. His name is Tech Sergeant
Harold Albert(Davis) Durand service # 32944796. His last name was Davis when he
served but his step-father adopted him shortly after they both returned from
Europe with CIB's, Purple Hearts and the Bronze Star. Grandpa fought with the 2d
ID carrying a BAR and came home carrying shrapnel from a grenade. Dad was in a
field hospital with frostbite and recovered soon enough to get wounded somewhere
in France. He was transfered to the hospital at Camp Carson and discharged in
July '45. Dad's proud of his military service and the fact that a family member
has served in every generation since the revolution. I'm sure he'd like to hear
from any 4th ID soldier and anyone who may have known him.

Comments: ARE YOU WONDERING WHAT OUR REGIMENT WAS DOING 55 YEARS AGO TODAY? If
so, you can read a day by day account for the month of June 1944 in the book
"Utah Beach to Cherbourg" which was written by the Center of Military
History and published in 1947. The book is availability in its entirety,
including maps, on the internet at http://www.army.mil/cmh-pg/books/wwii/utah/utah.htm
I find it fascinating to follow our Regiment as they fought through the
hedgerows in what was our heaviest casualty month in our history. And, in case
you are wondering, 1-22 and 2-22 were attacking the Germans two most powerful
coastal forts at Crisbecq and Azeville while 3-22 was reducing enemy strong
points along the beaches.

Comments: 55 Years Ago - June 6, 1944 - As part of the 4th Infantry Division,
the 22nd Infantry Regiment assaulted Utah Beach on D-Day in the long awaited
drive to defeat Hitler and release his stranglehold on Europe. Attached to the
8th Infantry Regiment, the 3rd Battalion, 22nd Infantry Regiment attacked at
H-Hour (0630 hours) and were followed in the second wave by the remaining two
battalions and support units of the Regiment. Rob Rush, our historian, has found
from the Morning Reports for June 6, 1944 that our Regiment lost 9 men KIA, 4
MIA, and 35 WIA on that longest day on the coast of France, the first of many
more casualties that occurred in the month of June 1944 and in the next 11
months as our Regiment fought across Europe. Let us never forget those men who
made the D-Day assault and wrote a sterling chapter in our Regiment's history.

Comments: Fellow Soldiers Thank you all for a superb reunion. To be in the
company of such Honerable men was a remarkable experience. One that I no doubt
took for granted in 69-70. I suppose it takes time to realize the sacrifice and
heroism that was a daily event so many years ago. My only regret is that I did
not record the names with the faces. There a several of you I wished to speak
with further so now I will have to rely on you, as time goes by, to help refresh
my memory. Thanks to the Officers and Cadre of the 22nd Society for another
"mission accomplished". Best Regards Steve

Comments: Double Deucers. I am completing my Doctoral dissertation that examines
the organization and soldiers of the 22d Infantry during the battle in the
Hürtgen Forest and want to ensure that I have left nothing out. I have the
microfilmed morning reports for every company in the 22d for the period Jun 44-
May 45 - but would like to find out when and where you entered service, as I
have found that there are many service numbers in near sequential number, which
means that you and your buddies stood in the same line at the induction center
and served through the war together. I would also like to look at any diaries,
journals, maps, letters or any other contemporary information written in
1944-and after viewing would return to sender. I also want to thank all those
who sent me letters detailing their service with the 22d Infantry as they filled
in some of the rough spots. My address is 8335 Seabright Drive, Powell OH 43065.
My email rushr@ix.netcom.com. I thank you in advance for any information or
materials you might provide.

Comments: I see my daughter has put her new mouse pad to good use already. Back
home again after the best reunion ever. Many thanks to M.C.Toyer and all those
involved in putting it together My wife and I really had an enjoyable time. I
hadn't seen my old CO, Lee Lloyd, since the Nashville reunion, and this time he
brought our old first sargent, Edward Nagel. The three of stirred up a lot of
old memories, some funny and some not funny at all. I know that the three of us
were especially touched when the small number of us WW 2 members present were
given a standing ovation by the greater number of Vietnam Veterans
present....Thanks again guys!!!! God willing I'll see you all in Atlantic City

Comments: Since I first signed the guest book 6 months ago I have been contacted
by Norm Nishikubo and have had several great telephone reunions with former
Vietnam Triple Deucers. Thanks Norm, John Eberwine, and Bill Allison. Your
efforts have enriched many lives. I wondered about Austin (Blues) Kreeger about
a thousand times over the last 31 years, and you can bet that I was overjoyed to
talk to him again. We found that we had been living about 40 miles apart for
most of that time. As a new member of the 22ndIRS, I wish I could be with you
all in Dallas this weekend. I would especially like to meet members from WWII
and Korea, so I could thank you for creating and continuing the Society so that
we youngsters (I'm 52, but still 18 at heart) can enjoy membership. I would
especially like to hear from anyone who was part of the 'infusion program' under
which several dozen of us were transferred from the 1st BN (Mech) 5th Infantry
in Cu Chi to the 2/22 during the summer of 1967. Rufus Dudley, where are you?

Comments: I just received the following report from Shannon Timberlake on the
death of (Major) Ron Timberlake: "Ron passed away May 6th. He was killed in
a motorcycle accident when someone pulled out in front of him. The Memorial
Service was May 9th, and internment will be at Arlington May 18th at 0900."
- I knew Ron only from his writings but have developed a deep respect for his
honor and patriotism. As I recall he served his first tour with the 187th AHC
(Crusaders) out of Tay Ninh and undoubtedly flew many missions in support of the
2nd and 3rd Battalions 22nd Infantry and the rest of the 25th Division as well.

Comments: 54 years ago today, May 8, 1945 - VE Day - the end of WWII in Europe.
When the announcement of cessation of hostilities was heard, Chaplain BIll Boice
sent down a letter to the men of the Regiment to be addressed to their families
and mailed home. It read: "This evening Admiral Doenitz has announced to
the German people the unconditional surrender of all German fighting forces. Had
this surrender occurred the 1st of September on our wave of optimism when we hit
the Siegfried Line, or immediately after the defeat of Von Rundstedt and the
successful crossing of the Rhine, we would have been wild with joy. The news of
Germany's surrender was received by all of us with a calmness very nearly
approaching indifference about the feeling deep within our hearts. There was no
revelry last night, no drunkenness, no shouting, no flag waving, nor horns
blowing; there was a sober realization that it was all over, at least so far as
Europe was concerned, and that we, by the strength of our arms and by our own
courage, had, with the help of God, completely and finally defeated everything
that the warped and twisted soul of a perverted nation could hurl at us. We take
no undue pride in what we have done, for we are sobered by the blood of our
comrades which cries up from every foot of ground from Normandy to Berlin and
from Holland to Italy. We have done what we had to do for you, as well as for
our own peace of mind. I am proud of my officers and fellows soldiers in the
22nd Infantry Regiment. There is not a single fighting day of which we must be
ashamed or for which we must make excuses. No Regiment in the ETO has more right
to hold its head high and to march with shoulders back, colors streaming, than
this one. Its record, its casualties, its achievements, and the respect it
instilled and the terror it struck in the heart of the German Army speak for
themselves." Deeds not Words!

Comments: I am the widow of Sgt. Ron Hacker, who was KIA on April 3, 1969.He
served in Viet Nam from Sept. 1968 till til his death in APRIL 1969, with C
Co,22nd Infantry, 4th Infantry Division. He was killed West of Kontum, as he was
carrying a wounded soldier away from the line of fire. I was given his purple
heart and silver star after his death, along with that info, but there is still
so much unknown. I would like to know who that wounded soldier was, and if he
survived. If anyone is still around who knows any details, I would like to get
more info. For that matter, if anyone even remembers Ron, and maybe has some
stories to tell, or pics to share4, I would love to hear from you. It's been 30
years, but he'll never be forgotten. There is a very special place in my heart
that is reserved just for him. JERRY WARNER--I read your message on the
"Virtual Wall". If you see this, please email me!!! Thanks to Mr.
Artola, Mr.Toyer, and everyone else who were so wonderful and helpful in trying
to help me find the info I need. I am forever grateful! It's nice to know that
there are so many great people out there! Love to you all!!
